Rimac Nevera

Rimac continues to shatter records with its electric Hypercar. Acceleration, top speed, braking, and now… reverse gear!

In 1967, the Lamborghini Miura became the fastest production car in the world by surpassing 170 mph, or 273.5 km/h. A few decades later, the Rimac Nevera has just reached the same speed… but while reversing.

Validated by the Guinness World Records, the Nevera now officially holds the absolute reverse-driving speed record. This crazy achievement was accomplished at the Papenburg testing complex in Germany, where earlier this year, it broke over 20 acceleration and braking records in a single day. It also reached a record top speed of 256 mph (412 km/h). In the Time Attack Edition, available in only 12 units, the Nevera this time reached 171.34 mph (275.74 km/h) in reverse.

Unlike a thermal engine car, or even some electric cars, the Nevera’s powertrain has no gears. The four individual motors either go forward or backward. This means that the same powertrain can go from 0 to 160 km/h in 3.21 seconds or from 0 to 320 km/h in just under 11 seconds, both forward and reverse!

The car’s aerodynamics, however, are only designed to be effective forward, which explains the madness and extreme danger of this challenge. Furthermore, if you’ve ever driven a vehicle with rear-wheel steering, you know it’s completely uncontrollable. It therefore took incredible skill from Croatian test pilot Martin Kodrić to set this record.

It’s pointless and dangerous, making this a remarkable record set by Rimac Nevera. Let’s bet it will hold for a long time, as it’s unlikely another manufacturer will attempt to break this record.
