Olympic Games 2024: Paris Offers Metro Tickets for 4 Euros!

Ile-de-France Mobilités announced that the price of a metro ticket will increase to €4 during the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Little by little each day, residents of Île-de-France are wondering who had the bright idea to host the 2024 Olympics in France, and more specifically in Île-de-France. On Monday, November 27, Île-de-France Mobilités revealed the transportation rates that will be in effect throughout the competitions (July 20 – September 8, 2024). The motto: make foreigners pay… and too bad if locals are also affected.

The metro ticket will therefore increase from €2.10 (which is already very expensive given the poor quality of service compared to other major world capitals) to €4. The pack of 10 tickets will rise from €16.90 to €32. Finally, the weekly pass will be priced at €70, compared to €30 in normal periods.

Ile-de-France Mobilités justifies itself by an explosion in costs during this period, as if the government had not planned to subsidize it. Thus, for a 15% increase in frequency (which would already be an extra), the fares will double. The additional cost is estimated at €200 million, an astonishing figure… or suspicious. It might be quite convenient to absorb other expenses unrelated to the Olympics.

Tourist pigeons?

If monthly subscriptions are not affected by this price spike, occasional travelers will be impacted. To avoid this, a tip: buy transportation tickets before July 20. We can already imagine the black market for tickets during the Olympic Games…

Finally, this grand celebration was supposed to give a beautiful image of France. The opposite is likely to happen with such outrageous fares imposed on tourists. Hotels, restaurants, transportation—the grand extravagance will cause chaos.
