With PBV, Kia could revolutionize modularity

Kia promises to reinvent commercial electric vehicles by fulfilling the dream of the modular car.

This new Kia concept is beautiful and well-developed, but is it a van, a truck, or a light vehicle? It’s actually a bit of all three. Justifiably proud of its multi-car concept, Kia couldn’t wait for the opening of CES 2024 in Las Vegas to present this impressive PBV concept to us.

Kia makes a striking entry into the utility vehicle world by combining everything that can be found and expected there. Of course, electric energy, fleet management optimization, and a high degree of customization thanks to a modular and transformable body that can be almost endlessly adapted, allowing a single chassis to meet a wide variety of needs.

Of course, when the constraint of housing an internal combustion engine is removed, everything becomes much simpler. The front part of the vehicle, housing the driver and all motor components, separates from the interchangeable rear section. The rear wheels stay in place, as does the flat chassis that holds the batteries.

This, of course, is only a prototype, and the enticing promotional video provided by Kia is just a compilation of virtual illustrations. But if Kia manages to bring a vehicle to production, even with a limited number of configurations, it will be a remarkable achievement because so many manufacturers have struggled with this idea!

Will PBV become a reality in the form we see here? We will discover this in 2025 when the actual model is unveiled. One last important point: Kia announces a starting price of 35,000 euros for the main structure!
