Swedish Tesla Employees Are Fed Up… with Unions!

While the conflict between Tesla and Swedish unions has escalated to the highest levels of the state, employees are distancing themselves.

The protests by the union IF Metall against Tesla Sweden were triggered by the absence of a collective bargaining agreement for the electric vehicle manufacturer. The union argued that it would be able to fight for Tesla employees if the company had an agreement. Tesla Sweden, for its part, claimed that its workers are already better paid than if they were unionized. And what about the employees? As crazy as it sounds, the vast majority of them haven’t asked for anything… Thus, more than 90% of Tesla Sweden employees do not participate in IF Metall’s protests.

As the Swedish newspaper Jönköpings-Posten (JP) pointed out, some employees at the Tesla factory in Hedentorp hung a banner on a fence at the headquarters with a simple but direct message: they are doing well.

The banner, which features a caricatured version of the hedgehog meme used by Tesla in its vehicle ordering process, bears the words “Tack, det är bra,” which can be translated as “Thank you, we’re good.” Through the banner, it seems Tesla employees want to indicate that they are not the origin of a conflict that has been attributed to them too quickly and without consultation. A simple declaration of loyalty to the American manufacturer.

The message has necessarily been a bit hard for the union to swallow, which naturally doubts the credibility of this action, hinting that the banner may not have been initiated by Tesla Sweden employees.

Nevertheless, the American manufacturer has just scored a decisive point that could perhaps change an already difficult situation.
