BMW i4 M Sport Cheaper Than Tesla Model 3, a Super Deal?

Until March 31, 2024, the BMW i4 35 M Sport offers an lease with option to buy at €590/month without down payment, which is €22/month less than a Tesla Model 3.

The counterattack is underway. Weakened by the loss of the ecological bonus in 2024, due to its Chinese production, the Tesla Model 3 is being attacked from all sides. BMW’s strategy is also becoming sharper: if the sale prices do not decrease, the Long-Term Rental (LLD) prices are still more aggressive.

Thus, the German manufacturer offers a whole range of electric vehicles with no down payment at very competitive prices. Certainly, one could argue that spending 590 euros/month on a car is not within everyone’s reach, and that’s true.

However, everything must be balanced: the down payment and the fuel savings during use. And that’s where BMW hits very, very hard. In fact, BMW grants a discount of over €10,550 to qualify for the ecological bonus.

An Anti-Tesla Model 3

BMW is thus offering, until March 31, 2024 (it is likely that the price will drop even further after), an electric i4 35 M Sport sedan at €590 per month. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive, which is nearly €15,000 cheaper to buy, starts at €692/month over the same 36-month period with 30,000 kilometers.

The €102 difference makes you think! Over the rental period, the savings amount to €3,672! What is this German car with such an intriguing price?

The BMW i4 35 M Sport is little-known, but its technical specs are outstanding. With a power of 210 kW, or 286 horsepower, it matches the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive. Conversely, its battery is slightly larger, with a net capacity of 67 kWh, compared to 60 kWh for the American. Range can reach 483 km, but the Model 3 performs slightly better thanks to better energy management: 554 km.

In terms of charging, it’s also a tie: 11 kW AC (home or work) and up to 180 kW DC (fast chargers). That’s enough to recover up to 100 km of autonomy in 4 minutes.

No ill will, but the finish quality of a BMW has absolutely nothing in common with that of a Tesla. The two manufacturers don’t compete in the same category, and this is reflected in the initial sale price. Same goes for the origin of production, as the salary of a German worker is not the same as that of a Chinese counterpart.

€590/month, the fair price?

It seems to us, at Mobiwisy, that BMW may have made a small pricing mistake. To confirm at the dealership, but we believe the price could be even lower. Why?

Because the basis for the calculation of the price is already based on a reduced ecological bonus of €4,000 for eligible electric cars. However, this decision has not yet been voted on, and until further notice, the bonus remains at €5,000. Spread over 36 months, these €1,000 can represent up to €27 monthly savings on the rent. So, negotiate with your dealer. Or perhaps BMW will keep the difference, which isn’t impossible…

Finally, BMW doesn’t emphasize enough, in our opinion, but the offer includes an ultimate bonus: unlimited charging on the Ionity network for 12 months! This can again lead to significant savings, especially on long highway trips where the kW cost is between €0.30 and €0.35. A 50 kW charge (always some reserve below 80%) costs between €15 and €17.50 for about 300 km of real range on the highway. Over a long trip, that’s quite a gift!

Ultimately, this BMW i4 35 M Sport offer seems very attractive to us, especially since there’s no down payment and the term is relatively short. In three years, the technology will have advanced significantly, and you can enjoy a new jump in performance… and price.
