Top 10 Cities with the Most Expensive Parking in France

The upcoming tripling of SUV parking fees in Paris reopens the question of which cities have the most expensive parking.

In a way, parking lot owners in Paris should be rubbing their hands together. Surface parking will nearly triple for vehicles weighing over 1600 kg starting September 2024, making underground parking more attractive. Consequently, prices will also increase there. Long live inflation.

The idea of renting out one’s own parking space may begin to emerge among city dwellers, through sharing models similar to those currently seen with automobiles.

Zenpark, the French reference in shared parking, has released a second study on monthly parking prices across France.

2. Marseille – Average public parking fee: €151/month
3. Lyon – Average public parking fee: €110/month
4. Toulouse – Average public parking fee: €107/month
5. Lille – Average public parking fee: €103/month
6. Montpellier – Average public parking fee: €101/month
7. Bordeaux – Average public parking fee: €91/month
8. Nantes – Average public parking fee: €75/month
9. Rennes – Average public parking fee: €68/month
10. Strasbourg – Average public parking fee: €58/month

To compile this ranking, Zenpark’s team conducted an in-depth analysis of over 12,000 secure parking spots available for rent via their website and mobile app.

This study also compares prices charged across most parking facilities, whether public or private, in various cities. In 2024, the average monthly rent for a parking space reaches €87.95 nationwide in France.

Between 2023 and 2024, Paris maintains its leading position with an average monthly rent increasing from €192 to €207, representing a 7% rise. Marseille remains second, with an average monthly rent of €151.50, a notable increase of 25% compared to €120 the previous year.

Lyon moves up from fourth to third place, with a rent of €111.10, up 11% from €100. Toulouse advances from seventh to fourth, with a rent set at €107.50, an increase of 12% from €96.

Lille drops from third to fifth position, with no change in the average monthly rent. Montpellier stays in sixth place with €101.60 per month, a 5% increase since €97 last year. Bordeaux falls from fifth to seventh, with a monthly rent of €91, a decrease of 7% from €98 in 2023.

Nantes, in eighth place, gains one position with a rent of €75, down 10% from €83 last year. Rennes enters the top ten in ninth place with a monthly rent of €68.50. Lastly, Strasbourg completes the top 10, with the lowest monthly rent at €58, after experiencing the steepest decline in the study with a 37% drop from €92 in 2023.
