Kia’s Big Surprise!

Kia has revealed the first images of the large K4 sedan, which will be unveiled this Wednesday, March 27, at the New York International Auto Show.

The latest creations from the Korean automaker have prepared us for the stylistic breakthrough it aims to undertake in the coming years. Initially, there was the EV6 attempt with a front and rear seemingly from two different models. A not very successful approach and thus without continuation. But with the renewal of the Sportage and the new models EV9, Sorento, and Picanto, Kia has established a strong concept that reaches its culmination in this K4 sedan, which could replace the Ceed in Europe.

The bodywork is decidedly futuristic, blending straight lines and sharp breaks. At Kia, this is called “Opposites united,” or “the opposites united.” It perfectly defines this bold and radical path. According to the brand’s own words, this style is made up of squares logically aligned in a seemingly illogical way. A disruptive approach that will inevitably unsettle the most conservative segment of automotive customers, but which brings a much-needed breath of fresh air.

No Logic, But a Kia Style

The lighting signature greatly enhances the vehicle’s dynamic effect, with vertical headlights pushed to the edges of the grille, helping to create a broad, solid stance, while the daytime running lights are integrated into horizontal chrome strips. The same philosophy applies at the rear, with vertical taillights positioned at the extremities of the vehicle, running downward toward a wide, elaborately designed bumper that incorporates the diffuser. A sudden break before the rear window creates a Fastback look, and although the effect is successful, to be honest, we are not really won over. It might need to be softened a bit before production. Kia’s designers certainly haven’t been idle!

However, there is a slight disappointment in the interior, where it is said that the goal is to break the “all for the driver” mold by dividing the dashboard into two zones: a very technical driving area and a comfortable passenger zone. Yet, classicism prevails, with a large digital screen for the driver and absolutely nothing for the passenger! It’s certainly comfortable, but if you’ve ever been in a latest-generation Porsche with passenger screens, you’ll feel pretty punished in this Kia! No need to mention the massive RND control, with its large release button, or the warning light in the middle of the console that harks back to the 1980s. Could the real breakthrough actually lie in the contrast between an ultra-modern exterior and a very classic interior?
