The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Will Take on a Myth in the United States

The legendary Pikes Peak hill climb is the next challenge that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will take on in the SUV/Crossover category.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N aims to build a “badass” image, a rebellious girl resisting all the current norms… in the world of electric vehicles. With its crazy performance and especially its brilliant fake gear-shifting technology (enhanced by a fake engine sound), the South Korean model is currently receiving all the praise in auto press reviews.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has found a solution to appeal to motorsport fans, and the illusion is stunning. Therefore, it must be announced quickly before competitors copy the idea.

In the United States, there’s nothing better than challenging a legend: a winding road over 20 km on a mountain, the Pikes Peak. Or, in English, Pikes Peak. The start is at 2,865 meters above sea level, and the finish line is 1,440 meters higher, at 4,305 meters. During the ascent, internal combustion engines lose almost half their power due to the thinning oxygen. An issue that doesn’t impact electric cars… like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

The Korean model will thus operate its 641 horsepower throughout the climb. For reference, the record for the event has been held since 2018 by the electric prototype Volkswagen ID.R in 7 minutes, 57 seconds, and 148 milliseconds. The 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will begin on June 23, 2024, where two units of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will compete to break the record in the stock SUV category.

One of the two cars will be entrusted to the legend Paul Dallenbach, an 11-time winner of the event. Additionally, two other cars for fun will be piloted by rally driver Dani Sordo, who races with Hyundai in the WRC World Rally Championship.
