The Very Nice Surprises of BYD’s Update 1.6

BYD launched its latest OTA update this morning, finally featuring essential functionalities and some nice surprises.

The OTA 1.6 update is now available for all BYD owners with a 30 to 60-minute process. Caution, this online update completely immobilizes the vehicle, so do not attempt to start it if you need to hit the road within the next few minutes!

Here are the main new features you can benefit from. 

• Wireless Apple Car Play: Finally!!! The connection no longer requires a cable to the phone and is automatic when you start the car. BYD is finally entering the 21st century automotive era. About time.
• Ventilation control: A three-finger horizontal swipe to access the blower settings, the same vertical for temperature. Practical.
• Browser: BYD now come equipped with an integrated internet browser. Just sharing a connection is enough to access your favorite sites, including, of course, Mobiwisy. The rotating screen then really comes into its own for viewing all kinds of content. When you have this tool, the list of essential apps like YouTube becomes obsolete, and that’s a good thing.
• App store: And to inaugurate it, what better than a good karaoke session!
• BYD App: You can finally locate your vehicle from your smartphone. A guidance feature is also available, with options between Apple Map, Google Map, and Waze. No more wandering in parking lots for minutes pressing unlock or honking your horn to find your car. Now, it’s child’s play.

It’s hard to call it a true revolution, but this update proves that BYD is capable of evolving its cars. From the indispensable wireless Apple Car Play to the totally frivolous but so enjoyable Karaoke, the possibilities seem endless. The Chinese manufacturer still has some work to do to catch up with Tesla, but they have finally started on the right path.
