If China releases it, the Xiaomi SU7 could be very powerful.

Porsche Taycan performance at the price of a Tesla Model 3 with a record range. No doubt, Xiaomi has hit hard.

With a length of 4,997 mm, a width of 1,963 mm, and a height of 1,455 mm combined with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, the Xiaomi SU7 clearly targets the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. However, these dimensions are not apparent thanks to its understated yet particularly fluid and elegant lines. To top it off, it’s offered in a color palette as wide as its ambitions.

With a top speed of 210 km/h, it is a great touring car in the true sense of the term. Three trim levels and equipment options are available with two types of powertrains. The single-motor SU7 weighs 1,980 kg, while the dual-motor SU7 Pro and SU7 Max weigh 2,205 kg. The single-motor SU7 is equipped with a unit delivering 220 kW (295 hp) made by United Automotive Electric Systems, a joint venture between Bosch and Zhonglian Automotive Electronics. The SU7 Pro and the SU7 Max are equipped with two motors with individual powers of 220 kW (295 hp) and 275 kW (368 hp) that can be combined to provide 663 hp.

Big ambitions, low price Xiaomi

But while the SU7 takes on the big GT sedans from Porsche and Tesla, it is priced like a Tesla Model 3! During the press conference presenting the model broadcast on YouTube, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, confirmed that the base model would be sold in China for 216,000 yuan, which is about 27,700 euros. That’s 3,000 to 4,000 euros less than the Tesla Model 3 in the local market. By applying a rule of three on Tesla’s prices in China and Europe, this equates to a mere 50,000 euros once it arrives in our market.

Want to dream a little more? The SU7 Max version with 800 km of range and 663 horsepower is priced at 39,000 euros. Unfortunately, no commercialization outside of China is planned at this time, and at these prices, it is clear that the Chinese giant is losing money on each car sold. But the most important thing is not that, as the phone manufacturer is now a recognized car manufacturer. Especially since Xiaomi can boast of succeeding where Apple has failed. So, is it a flash in the pan or the star of tomorrow? We shall see.
