Xpeng is preparing to challenge Tesla in France

The Chinese manufacturer Xpeng is the next major declared challenger to Tesla and European manufacturers.

Xpeng is a young Chinese brand founded in 2014. While it is still almost unknown on the old continent, it enjoys significant popularity in China, earning it the nickname “Chinese Tesla.” However, like all Chinese manufacturers, Xpeng faces fierce competition on its home turf and has smartly prepared to expand beyond its borders. Last year, the brand launched its latest model, the Xpeng G6, which aims to directly compete with the Tesla Model Y. Its arrival in France is becoming more certain.

The Xpeng G6 is now available for order in four European countries: Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. The next step will unofficially be France, as the manufacturer has invited French press, including Mobiwisy, in about ten days to unveil its plans.

Xpeng wants to make itself known and recognized in Europe

Whether in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, or the Netherlands, the prices of the G6 are aligned to within a few euros of those of the Tesla Model Y. At this level, this is of course not a coincidence, but a bold and ambitious assertion from Xpeng that its model is superior to Tesla’s. What better way to prove this than to offer it at the same price and let the public decide which is better? We mentioned a certain arrogance a few weeks ago while talking about Xpeng; this was by no means a pejorative remark, but a recognition of the manufacturer’s ambitions. After all, when you are confident in your strengths, why be modest?

We will judge the Xpeng G6 objectively when we can get our hands on it. But regardless of the qualities of this model, and no matter our judgment as mere journalists, the brand faces its greatest challenge, that of notoriety. Tesla is an established brand that also has valuable advantages, such as a well-developed charging infrastructure and a vast sales network. Therefore, it will be difficult for the G6 to immediately compete with the American company, but in this rapidly changing automotive world, nothing is impossible.
