Will Smith enters electric sailing competition

The actor, producer, and musician Will Smith joins the ranks of the UIM E1 World Championship with a GT Academy Playstation winner as driver.

Will Smith chose the current popular People championship for his debut. UIM E1 is a new series of electric racing boats introduced in 2022, which kicked off its inaugural season in February with the Jeddah GP in Saudi Arabia. Since its inception, E1 co-founders Rodi Basso and Alejandro Agag have managed to attract impressive team owners to their ranks.

The list of owners indeed resembles a mixed Who’s Who, featuring sports legends such as Rafael Nadal, Didier Drogba, Tom Brady, and Sergio Perez, as well as celebrities including superstar DJ Steve Aoki, cricket star Virat Kohli, and musician Mark Anthony. Initially, the grid comprised eight teams, now increased to nine with Will Smith’s team addition.

The Oscar-winning actor joins the league as owner of Westbrook Racing, referencing his entertainment company Westbrook Inc., associated with the “Fresh Prince.” Despite the image shared by E1, unfortunately, you will not see Will Smith racing on water in an E1 Racebird. The team has already signed two drivers, including Lucas Ordoñez. While the Spanish driver has participated five times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, earning a podium finish on his first LMP2 race with the French team SIGNATECH, he is best known within the gaming community. Ordoñez is the first winner of the GT Academy Playstation, which inspired the film Gran Turismo.

Lucas teams up with Sara Price, a professional driver and world-class stuntwoman who has won 17 national motocross championships and participated in the Dakar rally.

So, how does this new team measure up? Certainly a serious contender for the title, as Westbrook concluded the race held in Venice this weekend in third place, much to the joy of the team owner!
