XPENG and Tesla Replay the Clone Wars

To be the best, you have to beat the best. A truism or the law of the jungle, it is an absolute truth on which XPENG relies.

We discovered the XPENG G6 a few months ago during a presentation to the press. A very beautiful SUV with its body featuring soft curves and a very pleasant Coupe-like appearance. The manufacturer announced the opening of orders in June for initial deliveries in September. A tight schedule that left us puzzled, but XPENG keeps its word and confirms today that the G6 is available for order in a network of 15 sales points in France, which should quickly grow to 35 units. First come, first served, as the models will be sold in a just-in-time manner.

The G6 is offered in three versions: Standard Range RWD, Long Range RWD, and Performance. Fast charging is on the agenda with a charge from 10 to 80% in 20 minutes thanks to the 800V architecture with a capacity of 280 kW.

The Tesla Model in Focus

XPENG does not hide it at all; the target is the Tesla Model Y, and the Chinese manufacturer intends to surpass it with a slightly more premium positioning. The interior confirms this with its abundant leather and a multitude of delightful small details such as heated and ventilated seats, 4 USB ports, a double ventilated induction charging tray, and a 960 W audio system with 18 speakers.

A very rich offering that should be paired with a high price? Well, not at all, as XPENG has chosen to align its prices with those of equivalent Tesla Model Ys! Just take a look:

The Standard Range RWD G6 shows 258 hp and 435 km of range for 42,990 euros, compared to 42,990 euros for the Model Y, which does benefit from an ecological bonus. The same goes for the Long Range G6 with 550 km for 46,990 euros, exactly the same price as the Long Range Model Y at 600 km. For the all-wheel drive versions, 51,990 euros for Tesla compared to 50,990 euros for XPENG. Quite striking, isn’t it?

Aware that it does not have the same notoriety as the American manufacturer, XPENG fully embraces the “Copy-Paste with a little extra.” An intelligent approach, much like the overall strategy of this very creative manufacturer and specialists in passenger drones. A name to remember and a brand to watch!
