Xiaomi Challenges Tesla and Porsche in the Green Hell!

The founder and President of Xiaomi personally introduced the SU7 Ultra prototype on social media, aimed at becoming the new sports reference.

Launched successfully this year, the Xiaomi SU7 faced the challenge of going head-to-head with two electric sports benchmarks, the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan. Its main assets, besides Xiaomi’s recognized technological seriousness, are undoubtedly its sleek yet particularly elegant design.

The SU7 is equipped at the entry level with a single motor delivering 220 kW (295 hp). The Max version, with all-wheel drive, receives two motors with individual power outputs of 220 kW (295 hp) and 275 kW (368 hp) that can be combined to provide 663 hp. But what could be better than Max? Quite simply, Ultra.

A record chaser

The founding president of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, personally took to the keyboard on X (formerly Twitter) to present the SU7 Ultra Prototype.

Its goal is to shatter the time set by the Tesla Model S Plaid on the famous and terrifying Nordschleife, nicknamed the green hell. This 21 km circuit is the ultimate judge for any vehicle, and its reservation list has been busy in recent months. The Tesla Model S Plaid Track Pack completed it in 7’25″2 before being dethroned by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Pack Weissach in 7’07″5 and the Rimac Nevera in 7’05″2.

So how does Xiaomi believe it can achieve this feat? A few numbers speak louder than long speeches:

• 1,548 hp
• 1,900 kg thanks to a carbon body
• 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 sec
• 0 to 200 km/h in 5.96 sec
• 0 to 300 km/h in 15.07 sec
• Over 350 km/h in top speed

On paper, it should work, but one small detail bothers us. The Tesla Model S Plaid, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, and the Rimac Nevera that established the benchmark records are production cars, while this SU7 Ultra is clearly a prototype! Sorry for Xiaomi, but no matter what time is achieved, the SU7 can never claim to have beaten its rivals on equal footing. So let’s wait for a “Road Legal” SU7 Ultra.
