The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 for 45,000 euros?

Produced in South Korea, do not expect any environmental bonus for the new Hyundai Ioniq 5, but a welcome repositioning.

No official communication yet in France, but other European markets are gearing up for the arrival in dealerships of the upgraded version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The most active are our British cousins, who have presented their entire catalog along with the prices.

As a reminder, the biggest upgrade of this “new” Hyundai Ioniq 5 concerns its battery capacity, which offers two options. Either 63 kWh in “Standard Range” with 170 horsepower, or 84 kWh in “Long Range” with 230 hp. The range is 440 and 570 kilometers, respectively.

This new version also features aesthetic updates such as new 19 and 20-inch diameter wheels, refreshed bumpers, an extended spoiler to enhance aerodynamic finesse (the bride is very square…), the integration of a rear wiper (which is practical…), and digital side mirrors. Again, the aim is to improve the Cx and thus gain precious kilometers of range.

As an electronic novelty, all Ioniq 5 models now benefit from battery pre-conditioning and a heat pump to accelerate charging and limit energy consumption. Inside, the new center console is sliding, and climate control and heated seat buttons have appeared, reducing the “all-screen” design.

Are prices significantly dropping?

In England, new N Line and N Line S trims are available, all equipped with the large 84 kWh battery and, optionally, the possibility of having four-wheel drive. In this case, the ranges drop to 495 km due to a less “thin” body structure. The charging allows up to 350 kW for a transition from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Regarding pricing, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 now starts at £39,900 in England, which translates to €47,300 with a simple conversion. However, Great Britain is known for having the same vehicles significantly more expensive than on the continent due to its insularity. Thus, it is reasonable to think that the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 63 kWh will start at around €45,000 in France in the coming weeks.

With the 84 kWh battery, it starts at £42,400, which literally is €50,300. Again, it is quite possible it could flirt with €47,000, even though that would not make it eligible for the €4,000 environmental bonus.

Apart from its very atypical design, the great quality of this Hyundai Ioniq 5 has always been its interior space. Will the combination of these updates, both technical and pricing, give a boost to the sales of the South Korean model? Without the environmental bonus, it’s hard to guarantee.
