The King of the Solar Oven in Merguez Ventures into Automotive Charging

Don’t joke around, this project is serious and very clever. GoSun is set to launch a solar charger for electric vehicles.

According to its designer GoSun, this ingenious, if not elegant, solar charger adapts to any vehicle. It sits on the roof and only requires roof bars. GoSun claims that the charger provides 1.2 kW of solar energy, weighs only 30 kilograms, and is as easy to install as a roof rack. The presentation video shows a driver unfolding the solar panels from the charger along the length of the car and plugging the system into the vehicle’s charging port. Simple and effective.

The GoSun website indicates that the charger can recover up to 50 km of range per day, while noting that this depends on the vehicle and weather conditions. Logically, just like their solar oven, which won’t cook any sausages if the sky is overcast. Moreover, we would be curious to know the increase in consumption caused by the presence of the system’s box on the roof. It is known that having a roof box can reduce range by nearly 10%, and even if the device is relatively small and light, one should not lose range what one gains in charging!

Interested American customers can reserve their charger now on the GoSun website with a $100 deposit… or by entering an email address. No one has yet been able to verify the figures claimed by GoSun, and compatibility with European charging sockets is not yet guaranteed! Given that this solar gem costs $3,000, we advise you to simply follow the initial tests of the device and patiently wait for more information, as the concept definitely has a promising future.
