Hyundai Inster, the little Bobo SUV

Well-equipped and featuring eco-friendly materials, the Hyundai Inster embodies the essence of a chic urban vehicle.

Heir to the Casper, a mini-SUV with a gasoline engine launched in 2021 and reserved for the Korean market, the Hyundai Inster is primarily designed to be a practical choice perfectly suited to urban life. It has no off-road ambitions, no desires for vast spaces, just a daily tool with excellent interior space achieved through very boxy lines.

This cubical style suits it quite well, even if the overall shape remains very traditional. From the front and rear, it looks a bit more dynamic thanks to prominent fenders, a high-tech bumper reminiscent of a circuit board, and very modern lighting signatures. However, it’s unclear what to make of the bulky protective skids mounted at the front and rear, except that they serve no real protective purpose given their position and the fragile materials used. It’s a bit like wearing Balenciaga boots for a stroll in Saint Germain des Prés.

Hyundai continues to affirm its commitment to sustainable development and has made extensive use of eco-friendly materials in designing the Inster. The glossy black exterior paint is made from recycled tires, and the interior coverings utilize recycled bottles and bio-polypropylene extracted from sugarcane. It will definitely be a topic of discussion during Sunday brunches when ecology comes up…

And on top of that, it drives!

But a car is, above all, meant to move. The small Hyundai comes equipped in its base model with a 42 kWh battery that powers a 71.1 kW (97 hp) motor and 147 Nm of torque. The range is claimed to be 355 km in WLTP cycle, which is perfect for its intended use. With a 120 kW fast charger, it can be charged from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.

The lineup is expected to expand in 2025 with a “Cross” version featuring a more robust design. We are still waiting for confirmation of its entry-level price, which was announced to be 22,000 euros during the international presentation last June.
