Nissan Ariya Nismo: barely launched, already discounted by €6000

On sale in France since early October 2024, the Nissan Ariya Nismo electric vehicle has already seen its price drop from 59,300 to 53,300 euros!

What is the purpose of the initial sale price set by a manufacturer in 2024? Dozens of people responsible for pricing strategies, including development costs, payroll, VAT, marketing, etc., are trying to figure out a number. And then…

Then, as soon as the first customer enters a dealership, an immediate discount is applied. This somewhat absurd situation concerns almost only the “mass” automotive sector. You don’t negotiate the price of your carrots at the supermarket, your phone, your clothes, or anything else. But does something without a price still hold value?

Factually, we are witnessing a fierce competition within each manufacturer between online sales and dealership sales. This is precisely the case with the new Nissan Ariya Nismo, which has a price difference of 6,000 euros depending on whether you buy it online or in-store. More than 10%! From 59,300 euros, it drops to 53,300 euros. Could you have negotiated a better discount with a salesperson in front of you? Is this the end of dealerships and, tomorrow, the technical services that support them?

What is the Nissan Ariya Nismo?

Setting aside these concerns that are beyond us as simple consumers, let’s focus on this electric SUV Nissan Ariya Nismo. This is the sporty version of an initially very modest product. Isn’t there a personality disorder in muscling it up with 20-inch wheels, wider fenders, a spoiler, and sharp bumpers?

Beyond the aesthetic appeal, which is subjective, there are the facts. It features all-wheel drive, an 87 kWh battery, 429 horsepower, a torque of 600 Nm, and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.0 seconds. While the “slow” charge allows up to 22 kW (a good point), the so-called “fast” charge caps at 130 kW. Not great!

The same goes for the range of the Nissan Ariya Nismo, which does not provide more than 417 km of range in mixed cycle. This is much less impressive than a Tesla Model Y Long Range that, for 51,990 euros, offers up to 533 km of autonomy. Admittedly, the American is less expressive, less eccentric on the street, but what does the customer really want? Sales figures for Tesla have been telling us for years now…
