The Renault Scenic Alpine looks really badass in black!

If there’s one aspect that can’t be taken away from Renault, it’s revitalizing its catalog. Gone are the dull family cars. Now, we have convictions and know why we want (or don’t want) a Renault. Not because it’s cheap, on the contrary. And the company’s financial results, in a sector often mishandled, are even surprising.

The legitimacy of electric cars has been carefully built over the past 15 years, and it pays off. The upcoming R5 will delight viewers, because beyond the patriotic factor ensuring jobs in France, the streets of our cities will brighten with bold colors and daring designs. Nowadays, it’s impossible to confuse a Renault with a Chinese car with aimless lines. And if we go further, with a Tesla Model Y that has no charm at all… and that’s precisely what appeals to the hesitant.

Alpine at the Heart of the Game

For those who missed an episode, Alpine is now a fully independent brand within the Renault galaxy, but also an “Alpine spirit” trim. It appeared right from the launch of the new electric Scenic, beginning of 2024. It is exclusively available on the large battery “Long Range” version with 87 kWh, with a WLTP mixed cycle range of up to 625 kilometers (charging at 7 and 150 kW). That’s more than the Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (600 km), but it is also somewhat more expensive: 44,990 euros, after a 4,000-euro bonus deduction, versus 42,990 euros for the Tesla Model Y. Renault still offers the home charging station, which is significant in the purchase decision, as it brings real peace of mind when making the leap into electric.

You could argue about equipment and performance, but Tesla supporters will be fierce. Indeed, the Renault Scenic Alpine offers only 220 horsepower, compared to 300 horsepower for its American rival. One might wonder, “what’s the point?” in a time when speed limits are strict and energy efficiency is key to good range.

As standard, the Renault Scenic Alpine is entirely black: body, 20-inch aluminum wheels, windows. The look is ultra impressive. With Tesla, black costs 1,300 euros, and 19-inch wheels are dressed with plastic covers. 20-inch wheels cost 2,100 euros and reduce the range to 565 km.

Regarding regrets, the absence of a panoramic glass roof on the Renault Scenic Alpine (1,500 euros with the Solarbay opacifying function) is noted. Still, after applying the eco bonus, this Alpine version is available via 37-month lease with 30,000 km for 349 €/month after an initial payment of 5,000 euros. That totals 17,564 euros over the lease term. Less than the depreciation, so between buying and leasing, it’s clear… Plus, you’ll stand out from your neighbor.

Finally, your Renault dealer will always be willing to negotiate a few percent discount, which will surely influence your decision. At Tesla, the price is the price… for now.
