Segway Targets Dakar!

Early December, Segway officially announced the formation of a professional team to compete in the 2025 Dakar Rally.

This event marks a first for the brand with the deployment of its electric motorcycle, the Segway Dakar Race Bike, in the experimental Mission 1000 category. This ‘race within a race’ is dedicated to vehicles utilizing cutting-edge sustainable technologies such as electric, hydrogen, or biofuels, serving as a true innovation laboratory. The Dakar Rally, renowned for its extreme conditions, provides an ideal testing ground to validate the technical capabilities of new technologies.

To take on this challenge, Segway assembled a factory team composed of three professional drivers from different backgrounds. The team includes 19-year-old Argentine Benjamin Pascual, a motocross specialist and son of a seasoned Dakar participant, along with Chinese riders Yang Jie and Xu Jianhao, 14-time national motocross champions.

The Mission 1000 category, part of the Dakar Future project, offers a 1,000-kilometer course designed to test advanced technologies in extreme conditions. The primary goal is not pure competition but rigorous assessment of these innovations based on well-defined performance criteria. It is a unique opportunity for manufacturers to demonstrate the resilience and potential of electric, hydrogen, or hybrid engines in an extreme environment.

With this participation, Segway gains a prominent platform to diversify its activities in the electric motorcycle sector aimed at the general public. Meanwhile, Dakar aims to prove that performance, sustainability, and passion can coexist in the most demanding motorsports.
