3D Printing Revolutionizes Design for Alpine A390_β

The 100% electric flagship model exclusively designed by and for Alpine, the A390_β aims to make a mark in the manufacturer’s history with the A arrow.

Alpine realized that the concept behind the A390_β should be an opportunity to present a new vision of automobile production—not just a form or technology. Each show car also provides a chance to test new materials, explore innovative manufacturing methods, and collaborate with specialized partners. For the A390_β, Alpine brought together artisans with unique expertise, including Erpro Group, a French pioneer in 3D printing. As a true technological and sporting showcase, it allows the brand to push the boundaries of innovation and design.

Erpro crafted key components such as headrests, 3D printed from Pebax Rnew, a bio-based elastomer produced from castor bean seeds. These elements combine lightness, strength, flexibility, and transparency, seamlessly integrating into the futuristic interior of the A390_β. Inspired by the Alpine massif and Formula 1 cockpits, this interior reflects Alpine’s essence while projecting an avant-garde vision. The front seat, for example, combines a carbon shell with a headrest seemingly carved from ice, an effect made possible thanks to 3D printing. This process allowed respecting manufacturing constraints while achieving a world first for the automotive industry.

Erpro Group, led by Cyrille Vue, distinguishes itself through its digital artisanal approach, translating the most complex designs into unique parts. Alongside designer Vincent Rigommier, the company experimented with different thicknesses to optimize Pebax Rnew® ensuring both comfort and performance.

After three weeks of intensive development and close collaboration with Alpine teams, the spectacular headrests of the A390_β were created. This partnership between Alpine and Erpro exemplifies how innovation and French craftsmanship are redefining the standards of exceptional automobiles.
