This Electric Ford Will Infuriate Americans

Ford unveils a three-motor Mustang Mach-E for NASCAR, a highly controversial electric revolution.

On Thursday evening, during the launch of the Ford Performance season, Ford introduced its brand-new fully electric Mustang Mach-E prototype designed for NASCAR. This vehicle marks a historic turning point in a discipline often regarded as the most conservative in the automotive world.

NASCAR, rooted in the tradition of roaring V8 engines, is facing a passionate debate with the arrival of this silent revolution. Silencing the iconic powertrains is a controversial subject that excites both fans and purists. So when you call Mustang an electric car, you really get the most purist segment of the audience in turmoil!

This Mach-E prototype, specially adapted for the track, incorporates components from the current NASCAR Cup Series Mustang, including the suspension, brakes, steering, and 18-inch wheels with Goodyear tires. Powered by three electric motors and a 78 kWh battery, it features a carbon fiber structure. Although Ford hasn’t detailed its performance, similar electric models, like the SuperVan 4.2 (1,400 hp), suggest equally impressive figures.

Ford dares

This vehicle is part of a series of electric demonstrators by Ford Performance, alongside the SuperTruck F-150 Lightning and the Super Cobra Jet 1800. The Mustang Mach-E is expected to participate in the famous Pikes Peak race again in June 2025. Its driver is expected to be the legendary Alsatian Romain Dumas, holder of the record for the ascent in 7’57″148, set in 2018 with the Volkswagen ID.R.

As motorsport evolves toward electrification, this prototype represents both a technical challenge and a cultural divide. Ford is betting big on this Mach-E to appeal to an audience used to the rumble of V8 engines. Time will tell if this gamble can win the hearts of NASCAR fans.
