Ichiban Unveils an Electric Motorcycle Fit for Akira!

Ichiban Motorcycle Design is about to make a dream come true for fans of “Akira,” the iconic Japanese animated film.

The Japanese brand Ichiban recently unveiled a futuristic electric motorcycle, directly inspired by Kaneda’s famous vehicle. Unlike the bold concepts often showcased on the company’s social media, this model is set to go into production.

“Akira,” adapted from Katsuhiro Otomo’s manga, is one of the cornerstones of science fiction and a defining element of cyberpunk aesthetics. Released the same year as “Blade Runner,” it redefined the visual language of the genre. The iconic scene where Kaneda performs a spectacular skid on his motorcycle has been referenced in countless productions for nearly 40 years.

Ichiban future icon?

Ivan Zhurba, a designer at Ichiban, drew inspiration from this universe to create a vehicle that, while evoking Kaneda’s bike, offers a unique approach. The motorcycle features sleek lines, a bold structure, and eye-catching red and white paintwork. Zhurba applied the Japanese concept of “Kanso,” which emphasizes simplicity and purity, to eliminate any unnecessary elements.

But this motorcycle is not only a visual homage. It is equipped with advanced technology, including a dual 45 kW electric motor system capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds with the “Godzilla” mode activated. The claimed range is 250 km, and the battery can be recharged to 70% in just 30 minutes. Other features include an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control.

Despite these exciting details, Ichiban remains discreet about the launch schedule and the official name of this first model. Enthusiasts can register on the company’s website to stay updated. We will learn in the very near future whether this project marks a turning point in the design and performance of electric motorcycles, more so than “Akira.”
