This futuristic motorcycle emerges from Skoda’s past

Skoda designers boldly and modernly revisit a legend. The Slavia B, the first motorcycle created in 1899 by Laurin & Klement.

This motorcycle, a true treasure of Skoda’s heritage, is reborn today in a futuristic form thanks to the talent of French designer Romain Bucaille. With this contemporary reinterpretation, Skoda pays tribute to its roots in Modern Solid design. Romain Bucaille, an exterior car design specialist, enjoyed reimagining an icon from a bygone era: “I wanted to return to the brand’s origins while exploring a new form. Working on a motorcycle was a real breath of fresh air”, he confides.

The reimagined Slavia B retains the essence of the original model while adapting to the modern era. Inspired by the distinctive frame of the early Laurin & Klement motorcycles, Romain integrated a bold line that separates the front and rear sections. While the original model housed a 1.75-horsepower single-cylinder engine, the futuristic concept focuses on an electric vision, leaving an empty space in the center of the frame where the logo appears to float.

The design also pays homage to the motorcycle’s sporting heritage, which was tested in events such as the 1901 Paris-Berlin race. A “floating” saddle and a leather tool bag subtly evoke this spirit of adventure.

From Paper to 3D Model

Romain Bucaille adopted a classic approach, starting with hand sketches before moving on to digital tools. After several iterations, he developed a 3D model that perfectly reflects the balance between history and innovation. “Motorcycles showcase their mechanics. This dialogue between tradition and modernity is fascinating”, he explains.

With this reinterpretation of the Slavia B, Skoda proves that it is possible to combine heritage and innovation. This futuristic café racer reimagines an historic piece while injecting new energy into the Czech brand. A creation that is modern, functional, and emotional all at once, it is sure to inspire design and engineering enthusiasts.
