The Xiaomi YU7 buries the Tesla Model Y 2025 in range

It’s to be feared, it’s now official: the new electric SUV Xiaomi YU7 offers consistently better ranges than Tesla.

To deploy, and quickly, before being outrun by the pack on its heels. In short, this is the strategy of Tesla to hastily market its evolution of the Model Y. Alas, apart from the design and a few unimportant interior accessories (electrically folding rear seats, low-position LCD screen for better vomiting), the Tesla Model Y has not technologically evolved. Same batteries, same ranges (barely improved thanks to aerodynamic work on the wheel covers, front end, and rear diffuser), Mobiwisy had already raised concerns in an article questioning the dangerous delay that the American brand will soon experience.

And it didn’t take long: its Chinese competitor Xiaomi was holding back to act later. Less than 3 weeks after the presentation of the V2 of the Tesla Model Y, Xiaomi had its ultra-sexy SUV YU7 approved. And under the same CLTC standards for range calculation, the observation is striking. When the Model Y Propulsion shows 593 km CLTC and the All-Wheel Drive Long Range 719 km CLTC, the YU7 with the worst range will still offer 670 km (version 681 horsepower).

Cheaper prices?

At launch, only the all-wheel drive YU7 will be offered, with two other power levels with higher ranges: 750 and 760 km in mixed CLTC cycle. A Propulsion version (315 horsepower / 235 kW) with a smaller battery will follow, with a range expected to flirt with 650 km CLTC. To estimate the European WLTP range, you need to subtract nearly 150 km.

Finally, Xiaomi hinted that the starting price would be 250,000 yuan, or 34,000 euros, compared to 263,500 yuan (35,900 euros) for the well-equipped Tesla Model Y Propulsion Launch Edition. Xiaomi is currently only a manufacturer sold in China, and its sales trajectory is expected to reach 300,000 cars by 2025, notably thanks to the arrival of the YU7.
