Fiat is already working on the price of its electric Panda

Fiat Grande PAnda

Launched in early 2025 and still invisible on the streets, the Fiat Panda is a failure that necessitates a price repositioning.

We all know the concept of a “threshold of appearance” for a car in our daily lives. This obviously depends on the population density and the number of inhabitants in a nation. In France, the feeling of “seeing a car on the street” starts at around 15,000 units sold. In the United States, you would have to multiply this figure by five.

Derived from the more visible Citroën ë-C3, the Fiat Panda is, strictly speaking, invisible in France. Whether in petrol or electric version, it makes no difference. This observation is starting to worry the Turin manufacturer, which had banked on a retro design to strike a chord with customers.

What are the causes of this commercial failure?

The Fiat Panda is the result of a train of thought maintained during Carlos Tavares’ tenure, who was ousted at the end of 2024. Everything had to be done at a low cost, with platform sharing among brands (a positive point), but with a deplorable perceived quality.

The Panda suffers from ubiquitous hard plastics, which are absolutely not in line with a car that, due to its electric drive, costs 24,900 euros (before ecological bonus) in its stripped-down base version. However, 25,000 euros is a large sum of money in 2025.

The Panda also pays the price for questionable thermal choices, such as overly boxy aerodynamics, which degrade range more than its cousin, the Citroën ë-C3… ultimately more flattering in terms of equipment and presentation. A very penalizing “mirror effect” for the Italian… not to mention the residual value loss related to brand image.

A price drop that won’t change anything?

When a new car benefits from an almost immediate discount, the message sent to customers is not positive. Shouldn’t the price have been adjusted without any communication, and let it be?

On the contrary, Fiat is already offering a promotion of 1,500 euros on all finishes of the range. Thus, the entry price in the catalog drops from 24,900 to 23,400 euros. By applying the new CEE Prime, which replaces the ecological bonus, with a minimum amount of 3,100 euros, the Panda then falls to 20,300 euros.

For just a little more, Renault offers its R5 with far superior features. And if price is the supreme argument, then other electric cars today are just as relevant as the Fiat Panda but for less money. We think of the BYD Dolphin or Dacia Spring.
