Thanks to an excellent environmental score, the KIA EV4 Hatchback (compact) benefits in France from the CEE Bonus of at least 3000 euros.

As a preamble, an important piece of information must be conveyed: there are two body styles of the new and attractive KIA EV4. The first, called Hatchback and designed for the European market, is produced in Slovakia, at the Zilina plant.

The second, with its rear trunk and very aerodynamic profile, is called Fastback. It is produced in South Korea and is therefore not eligible for the famous “Coup de Pouce” from the French state, the new CEE Bonus which replaces the ecological bonus from July 1, 2025.

A super price positioning?

Factually, this new KIA EV4 is a significant thorn in the side of the Renault Megane E-Tech. The pricing strategy and performance in terms of range are almost similar for the entry-level version (58 kWh battery, referred to as Standard Range), with the added novelty effect.

However, the South Korean brand offers a large battery version (referred to as Long Range) with 81.4 kWh, which is interesting. Nevertheless, everything points us back to the market reference, the Tesla Model 3, which is even cheaper in its Long Range RWD configuration.

Only the Hatchback version, as shown here, is eligible for the CEE Bonus. @KIA

Thus, the KIA EV4 Hatchback starts at 38,290 euros in Air trim. Choosing the larger battery adds a cost of 4,600 euros to increase the range from 440 to 625 kilometers on 17-inch wheels. The 19-inch versions lose between 15 and 30 km of range.

In the intermediate Earth trim, prices start at 40,590 euros (Standard) and 45,190 euros (Long Range). In GT-Line, only the larger battery is available starting at 46,990 euros, the threshold to be eligible for the CEE Bonus, which is at least 3,100 euros as of July 2025.

Once again, it’s more expensive than a Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD, which is far more convincing.

The Fastback body will start at 42,290 euros and 46,890 euros depending on battery size. Beware, it is not eligible for the CEE Bonus.

Not powerful enough charging?

With front-wheel drive offering a power of 150 kW (204 horsepower) for a weight ranging from 1811 to 1910 kg, the KIA EV4 plays the card of mechanical smoothness. No great thrill, but rather energy efficiency.

And that’s a good thing, because a major criticism can be made of this car: its charging speed, especially for the Long Range version. With respective peak charging powers of 108 and 128 kW depending on battery size, filling up will seem endless.

Why this choice when KIA (and by extension Hyundai) are champions of 800-volt architectures capable of handling huge power spikes? The distinctive feature of an electric vehicle is now its ability to charge quickly.

The KIA EV4 is attractive, smart, but it makes a gross error here compared to already established competition that is not ultimately lagging. The Renault Megane E-Tech is even better with a charging power of 22 kW in alternating current, against 11 kW for the KIA EV4. And on fast chargers, it also reaches 130 kW. As for the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD, it charges up to 250 kW and its range reaches 702 km…

One can recognize a merit in the KIA EV4: it will allow the market to lower prices again.
