Dominant since the beginning of this F1 weekend in Belgium, Oscar Piastri continues to shine on the Ardennes rollercoaster. Already above the pack during Free Practice, the Australian confirmed his sparkling form in the sprint qualifying on Friday at Spa-Francorchamps. With a masterful lap of 1:40.510, the McLaren driver pushed Max Verstappen back by nearly half a second, further asserting his status as the favorite for Saturday’s sprint. His teammate Lando Norris, often fighting at the front, struggled to keep pace and settled for fourth place, over six tenths behind.

Behind this leading duo, the surprise came from Esteban Ocon. The Frenchman lifted his Haas to an impressive fifth position, the best of the rest ahead of Carlos Sainz and young Oliver Bearman. An unexpected performance that brings smiles back to the American team backed by Toyota. Pierre Gasly, for his part, showed solidity with an eighth-place finish, just ahead of Isack Hadjar, who continues to prove he belongs in the elite.

On the other hand, the session turned into a disappointment for some big names. Lewis Hamilton, struggling with a Mercedes fitted with a new rear suspension, was eliminated in SQ1 after a mistake at the entrance to the chicane. He will start 18th, a blow to the seven-time world champion. Kimi Antonelli, who spun in SQ1, will close the grid in 20th position.

Starting Grid and TV Schedule for the Singapore F1 Grand Prix

George Russell did not fare much better, caught out in SQ2, and will only start 13th. The same goes for the Aston Martins, who also exited early. This raises some doubts about the setup strategies, in a weather context that remains uncertain for the rest of the weekend.
