For the first time in F1 history, a team has made an international trip using a 100% electric truck.

What pollutes the most in Formula 1: the single-seaters as some critics believe or the entire global logistics circus? Each team mobilizes between 40 and 50 trucks at European races to transport single-seaters, parts, technical equipment, and hospitality structures. According to the discipline’s sustainability report, logistics accounts for nearly half (45%) of the championship’s total carbon footprint. The FIA and F1 have set the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030: a challenge that inevitably involves electrification and alternative fuels.

Starting from this observation, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team has written a new chapter in the history of Formula 1 by modernizing its transportation fleet. An eActros 600 connected the Brackley base (United Kingdom) to the Zandvoort circuit (Netherlands), covering 673 kilometers without direct CO₂ emissions, during the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix in late August.

F1 as a technological showcase

Voted International Truck of the Year 2025, the eActros 600 is equipped with a 600 kWh battery, designed to cover up to 1.2 million kilometers over ten years. It can tow 40 tons, meeting the needs of a Formula 1 team. Its power reaches 400 kW continuously (544 hp), with peaks at 600 kW (816 hp)… with torque capable of turning the rim on the tires!

On the charging side, the truck relies on the MCS (Megawatt Charging System): from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes. On the Brackley-Zandvoort route, data confirmed that the truck could have completed the entire distance with a single charge.

Electrification will not replace but complement the efforts already made by the team. Since 2022, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 has been using the HVO100 biofuel for its trucks and generators, avoiding over 500 tons of CO₂ in a season. By combining biofuels, electricity, and soon hydrogen (Mercedes is leading the development of an Actros with this energy), the team is exploring several avenues to reduce its carbon footprint.
