The TV program for the 2024 Austrian F1 Grand Prix

Discover the TV schedule for the Austrian Grand Prix, the eleventh round of the 2024 F1 season.

The European triple-header of the F1 Circus continues with an Austrian stop after the visit to Catalonia. In addition to the eleventh round of the 2024 F1 season, the Red Bull Ring will host the third Sprint weekend of the season. The schedule is disrupted with a single free practice session on Friday morning before the Sprint qualifying in the afternoon. The main race qualifying is still set for Saturday afternoon, but just a few hours after the Sprint race.

The Red Bull Ring is a true old-school circuit, very hilly, that has lived several lives. Known as the Spielberg Circuit, it first hosted F1 from 1970 to 1987, then became the A1 Ring from 1997 to 2003. Acquired by Red Bull in 2005, it returned to the calendar in 2014. It is also one of the shortest circuits of the season with a length of 4.318 kilometers. With a mix of long straights, which are not always straight, and fast corners, lap times drop below the 1’10 mark for the only time in the calendar. Carlos Sainz holds the lap record with a time of 1’05″619.

There are three DRS zones on the track, one per sector. In order to address the ongoing controversies about track limits, small gravel traps have been reintroduced in corners 9 and 10. This is a sensible solution, especially since 1,200 track limit violations were recorded during the 2023 edition! Any excursion off track will now be punished at best with some gravel on the side pods and track, and at worst with destroyed wings and other aerodynamic appendages. This is good for the spectacle, but beware of session interruptions and Virtual Safety Car deployments to clear the debris.
