Mazda 787B Rétromobile

On the occasion of the 50th edition of the Rétromobile Show, Mazda is ready to make a memorable mark by celebrating a historic anniversary.

Mazda will celebrate in the grandest of ways the 35th anniversary of its legendary victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. From January 28 to February 1, 2026, at the Parc des Expositions de la Porte de Versailles, the Japanese manufacturer will showcase the iconic Mazda 787B at its stand located in Hall 7-2, stand D-083.

Victorious in the 1991 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 787B remains to this day the only rotary engine car to have won the world’s greatest endurance race. It also made Mazda the first Japanese automaker to triumph in this legendary event. This victory, achieved by Johnny Herbert, Volker Weidler, and Bertrand Gachot under the Mazdaspeed banner, remains one of the greatest feats in the history of motorsport.

A technological marvel

Surrounding the 787B, the brand will present a unique retrospective dedicated to the rotary engine, which has been the thread of its technical identity since the 1960s. Three iconic production models will be on display: the Cosmo Sport 110S, a pioneer of the twin-rotor design in 1968, the Luce R130, and the legendary Mazda RX-7. Together, they illustrate the evolution of an audacious, compact, lightweight technology known for its rapid revving, captivating sound, and remarkable endurance.

The Mazda 787B presented at Rétromobile will be the reserve chassis No. 002, equipped with its atmospheric four-rotor engine, exceptionally loaned by the 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum. The original winning car is, in contrast, carefully preserved at the Mazda Museum in Hiroshima.
