Honda Gold Wing, 50 Years of a Legend

Since its launch in 1975, the Honda Gold Wing embodies innovation and comfort in the world of touring motorcycles.

With its water-cooled, flat 4-cylinder engine of 999 cm³, the GL1000 revolutionizes long-distance travel, combining performance, refinement, and reliability. As early as 1976, a limited edition celebrates this success, and in 1979, a dedicated factory opens in the United States to meet the ever-growing demand. In 1980, the GL1100 confirms the Gold Wing’s position as the benchmark for GT motorcycles. With an engine increased to 1085 cm³, a longer wheelbase for greater stability, and an Interstate version equipped with original fairings and luggage, it meets the expectations of the most demanding riders. The arrival of the GL1200 in 1984, followed by the Limited Edition in 1985, marks a new milestone with innovations such as electronic fuel injection, automatically adjustable suspension, and cruise control.

And then came the magic of the Honda 6-cylinder

In 1988, the GL1500 pushes the limits even further with its 6-cylinder engine, the result of intensive testing on 15 prototypes and 60 different configurations. It sets a new standard in comfort, handling, and quietness, redefining the category of touring motorcycles. In 2001, the GL1800 introduces unprecedented dynamic performance under the direction of Masanori Aoki. Thanks to an optimized engine, an aluminum frame, and 20 patented innovations, it combines agility, power, and riding pleasure, while maintaining its GT DNA. In 2006, the Gold Wing innovates with the first integrated airbag on a motorcycle, reaffirming its pioneering role in safety. The fully redesigned 2018 model lightens the motorcycle by 48 kg and features a revolutionary double-wishbone front suspension alongside modern connectivity including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For nearly five decades, the Gold Wing has embodied excellence, constantly evolving to offer riders a unique experience that blends comfort, technology, and riding pleasure.
