LiveWire S2 Del Mare

LiveWire, the electric motorcycle brand launched by Harley-Davidson, continues its expansion with a more affordable new model: the S2 Del Mar.

For several months, the name LiveWire no longer refers to a specific model within Harley-Davidson’s lineup, but has become a standalone brand focused on the electric motorcycles aimed at urban riders. The S2 Del Mar is the first real new product from this entity.

The S2 Del Mar introduces a modular platform called “Arrow.” This architecture, which will also be used on other models, was specifically designed for electric motorcycles. Simpler thanks to better integration of various components, it is cheaper to produce and thus allows LiveWire to make more accessible bikes. The Arrow platform also has another advantage: it can receive over-the-air updates.

A LiveWire for $15,000

The S2 Del Mar positions itself as a much more affordable motorcycle compared to the One – the new name for what was initially the Harley-Davidson LiveWire. In its base configuration, it will be sold for around $15,000, which is $8,000 less than its bigger sister.

The limited launch series of 100 units was priced at $17,699. However, it is now part of the past, as all units have been sold – or at least reserved – since its introduction. The first customers will be served in spring 2023.

The entire battery/motor assembly is a load-bearing element of the motorcycle. It essentially replaces the frame.

The S2 Del Mar is powered by an electric motor of 59.6 kW, approximately 80 horsepower. Torque peaks at around 600 Nm. LiveWire does not elaborate on its performance but still promises a 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds. The battery, whose capacity is not yet known, offers a theoretical range of about 160 km in city driving. Sufficient for everyday trips but a bit limited for a road trip on Route 66!
