Energica x Ideanomics

The electric motorcycle specialist Energica has just been acquired by an American company.

Like Zero, Energica Motor Company was a pioneer in the electric motorcycle market. Founded in 2014 in Modena, the brand is now entering a new era, as it has just been bought by the American company Ideanomics.

Ideanomics presents itself as a specialist in electric mobility, with the main goal of “accelerating the deployment of commercial-use electric vehicles”. By taking control of Energica, the American company is expanding its scope of activities.

Joint Conference in New York

“Thanks to this acquisition, Ideanomics is in an ideal position to benefit from the growing demand for two-wheel electric vehicles”, said Shane McMahon, CEO of Ideanomics. On the other hand, Energica probably sees this acquisition as an opportunity to secure its future, at a time when collaborations between manufacturers are becoming essential.

Ideanomics and Energica held a joint conference in New York on April 11. During the event, the manufacturer displayed three models from its range: the Ego, the Ribelle, and the EsseEsse9.

High-End Electric Motorcycles

Energica’s motorcycles target sports enthusiasts. They can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds and promise a range exceeding 400 km (with the 21.3 kWh battery). Naturally, prices are also quite high. For example, an Ego+ RS without options will cost over €32,000. And if you decide to add options from the catalog, the bill can quickly exceed €40,000. To find something below €20,000, you should turn to the entry-level EsseEsse9, which is equipped with a 13.4 kWh battery.
