A big leap into the unknown for Ducati (+Video)

Ducati enters a new field with a significant challenge: its first motocross bike, the Desmo450 MX, begins production.

This launch marks an important turning point for Ducati, which is exploring a market still unknown to it, that of off-road. With its immense experience in Supermoto, it’s clear that the Italian brand hasn’t had to relearn its fundamentals, yet the challenge remains substantial.

Production began at the Borgo Panigale factory in Bologna on May 26, 2025. It’s a historic moment for the brand, which had until now focused on road and circuit racing motorcycles. The Desmo450 MX is designed to be both high-performing and accessible, aimed at professional riders and enthusiasts alike.

This model stands out with its 449.6 cm³ single-cylinder engine featuring desmodromic distribution, a technology exclusive to Ducati. This engine provides effective and controllable power, particularly during acceleration and responsiveness. The bike is also equipped with a unique Traction Control system in this category, capable of precisely detecting rear wheel slip.

Ducati’s expertise reinvented

The lightweight and sturdy aluminum chassis is designed with minimal welding to ensure rigidity and reliability. This attention to structure helps reduce rider fatigue while delivering high performance.

The Desmo450 MX is the first of a future range of off-road motorcycles from Ducati. With this model, the brand aims to attract new customers and expand its community. This project has been made possible thanks to the involvement of motocross enthusiasts within the company and contributions from experts like Tony Cairoli and Alessandro Lupino.

The motorcycle will be available in Europe starting June 2025, and in North America from late July. Performance accessories and rider equipment, developed in partnership with Drudi Performance and Alpinestars, will complement the offering. This launch marks a bold new step for Ducati.
