Peugeot SPx, how dare you!!!

What if Peugeot decided to put the SPx concept into production? If the recipe that made the 103 SP a legend is followed to the letter, it must happen.

The Peugeot 103 was much more than just a means of transportation. It was a declaration of independence, a cry of freedom on two wheels. A simple concept to go from point A to point B at low cost. But more than anything, it was for an entire youth the symbol of freedom of movement without the silliness of a Solex or the cramps of a bicycle.

With a simple design, ease of use, and an affordable price for everyone, it offered the public the possibility to free themselves from the constraints of traditional mobility, which was financially demanding or insufficient public transportation. The Peugeot 103 paved the way for a new era of personal mobility, for all.

Spirit of the 103 SP without the noise

In 2024, the SPx project embodies what Peugeot sees as a faithful reinterpretation of the spirit of freedom of the Peugeot 103, this time with an electric motor. Blasphemy, sacrilege, or rebirth?

The SPX retains the recipe that made its prestigious ancestor successful, with an aluminum frame, optimized weight reduction, and a limited number of parts. Add a pinch of recycled materials to live with the times, and here is the moped of the future!

We would ultimately be tempted to say that it is, unfortunately, just a prototype, as the 1971 recipe would suit such a vehicle perfectly. The switch to electric will ultimately be a blessing for residents who will no longer have to endure the assaults of exhaust pipes.

But then Peugeot discreetly posts two photos of the masked beast on Facebook with a rather ambiguous message like “get ready, we’re going to send some serious stuff… or not”. And our message will be clearer: dare! Dare to launch this SPx on the road and see that today’s youth have just as much need for a good moped as we, who have become old. One question remains, however. If it is ever marketed one day, will there be an optional twisted handlebar?
