Electric scooters: Paris cuts €400 subsidy

The assistance for electric bikes is subject to income conditions.

The city of Paris has decided to review its mobility aid policy. It will now be less generous and will reserve part of its program for people with modest incomes. “Today, the depowering of Parisians is fully underway, universal aid is no longer necessary”, the municipality writes to justify its decision.

The reform will take effect on October 15. It includes several measures, among which the elimination of the €400 aid granted for the purchase of a limited-speed electric two-wheeler (up to 45 km/h). This decision comes at a time when an increasing number of Parisians are choosing an electric scooter, in order to still benefit from free parking.

The incentives for purchasing a electric bike or a cargo bike (electric or not) are now conditional on income. They are now reserved for Paris residents whose reference tax income per unit is less than or equal to €6,300.

A new €100 aid for mechanical bikes

While the goal is clearly to reduce expenses, the Paris city hall is still creating a new series of aids, including the full list below:

• Assistance for purchasing a mechanical bike: up to €100, subject to income conditions (tax income ≤ €6,300)
• Assistance for purchasing a bike trailer: up to €100, subject to income conditions (tax income ≤ €6,300)
• Assistance for purchasing a bike suitable for people with disabilities: up to €900
• Funding assistance for learning to ride or regaining cycling skills: up to €60
• Funding assistance for an annual bike parking subscription: up to €100
• Funding assistance for a Mobilib subscription: up to €100
• Assistance for purchasing accessories (helmets and locks): up to €50
