Renault Firman Access

Renault has announced the free availability of its exclusive safety device, the Fireman Access, for the global automotive industry.

Developed by Renault Group, this innovation, born from a unique partnership with firefighters, enables fire services to extinguish an electric vehicle battery fire in just a few minutes, a significantly reduced time compared to the absence of this system.

The Fireman Access, patented by Renault, is designed to combat electric vehicle battery fires. In case of a fire, an adhesive disk, installed on the battery casing, gives way under the influence of the firefighters’ water jet. This allows for the rapid flooding of the battery cells, thereby extinguishing the fire in just a few minutes, compared to several hours and a large amount of water without this device. This system is now integrated into all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Mobilize.

French Ingenuity

To promote road safety globally, Renault Group is making the Fireman Access license available for free through a collaborative platform, allowing any interested car manufacturer or equipment supplier to access this technology. In return, licensees commit to sharing any improvements made to the system with the community.

This initiative is part of Renault Group’s commitment to road safety, in partnership with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt. Renault Group is also participating in the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, an event that highlights the company’s involvement in making mobility safer worldwide.

This safety device is part of Renault Group’s sustainable development strategy, which incorporates road safety into a comprehensive approach. For over 50 years, the Group has been working to prevent, correct, protect, and rescue on the roads, with the ambition of making mobility accessible to all in a safer manner.
