Stellantis and Valeo Announce the Launch of a Major Joint Program for Remanufactured Car Parts.

These products, showcased at the Rematec fair in Amsterdam, illustrate the commitment of the two partners to reduce their carbon footprint while leveraging existing resources for high-volume car parts production.

With this initiative, Stellantis and Valeo continue a strategy started in late 2023 with the commercialization of the first refurbished front camera. Remanufacturing, which involves restoring used products to perform like new ones, plays a central role in their decarbonization efforts. This process notably reduces CO2 emissions by up to 70% compared to manufacturing new products, while reusing up to 50% of raw materials for LED headlights.

These remanufactured products are part of Stellantis’s REMAN SUSTAINA range, with applications already planned for PEUGEOT 3008, 5008, and 508 models, as well as Citroën, DS, and Opel models. A remanufactured display screen, developed within Valeo’s circular electronics laboratory in Nevers, will be available as early as June 2025. These initiatives strengthen Valeo’s multi-brand strategy, which aims to double its annual volume of remanufactured products by 2030.

However, while these innovations are commendable for their contribution to a more sustainable industry, they also raise questions. What is the true cost of remanufacturing compared to producing new items using recycled materials? The goal of extending product lifespan must also ensure that these initiatives remain economically advantageous for consumers. The nobility of environmentally responsible actions should not justify price increases for customers, especially in a context where financial accessibility is crucial.

Stellantis and Valeo must therefore ensure that circular economy is not just a marketing argument, but a viable solution that remains environmentally respectful and balanced for all stakeholders involved.
