Electric Michelin

Michelin launches two new summer tires that combine sporting performance, record longevity, and maximum energy efficiency.

Michelin has just unveiled the MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy, two ranges of summer tires designed to accompany the rapid transformation of mobility. While summer models represent about 80% of annual global sales, these new offerings are positioned as a direct response to the expectations of manufacturers and drivers: low rolling resistance, impeccable grip, reduced wear, and intact safety, even on 100% electric vehicles.

The Primacy 5 energy achieves the European triple A label (energy efficiency, wet grip, external noise), a rare performance. Thanks to Energy Passive 2.0 technology combining functionalized elastomers, new resins, and lightweight architecture, it offers the best longevity in its category – up to 40% superior to several direct competitors according to independent tests.

The new electric paradigm

In terms of concrete benefits, this tire reduces fuel consumption by up to 6% (about 0.3 liters per 100 km), extends the range of electric vehicles by up to 70 km per charge, and allows savings of approximately €169 on fuel while avoiding 327 kg of CO₂ over its lifespan. Wet braking improves by up to 8% even for tires worn down to 2 mm, and the noise level remains particularly low.

The Pilot Sport 5 energy, on the other hand, targets drivers who demand dynamism. It integrates Michelin’s motorsport expertise with technologies like Dynamic Response and an adaptive compound for exceptional precision and grip on both dry and wet surfaces. Despite its performance orientation, it retains an A rating in rolling resistance – an achievement for this category – and benefits from uniform wear thanks to MaxTouch technology. Its robustness was validated during a world record attempt: maintaining 300 km/h for nearly eight days on a Mercedes-AMG.

These two ranges, already approved by many premium manufacturers, are available now: 33 sizes (16 to 19 inches) for the Primacy 5 energy and 19 sizes (19 to 21 inches) for the Pilot Sport 5 energy.
