Elon Musk announces that the autonomous revolution has already begun!

Although Elon Musk has recently stepped back from the political sphere, he seems firmly determined to remain in the media spotlight. His latest announcement is a striking proof: Tesla is said to have started testing its driverless robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, several days ago. If confirmed, it would be a true revolution in the world of autonomous driving.

According to Musk, several autonomous Model Y vehicles are already circulating on public roads in Austin without anyone at the wheel, and this is happening without incident. The CEO claims this milestone has been reached “a month ahead” of the planned schedule. However, just a short while ago, reports indicated that Tesla had not yet begun driverless testing, which seemed concerning only weeks ahead of the launch.

All doubts are not dispelled

The service is scheduled to launch on June 12 with an initial fleet of 10 to 20 vehicles. Musk goes even further by announcing that, starting next month, a Tesla vehicle will be delivered from the factory to the customer fully autonomously, without human intervention.

However, this rush raises many questions. Unlike Waymo, which tested for six months with safety drivers and then another six months without, Tesla seems to want to skip steps. Musk claims everything is going well after just a few days of testing, but this seems premature. The absence of incidents over such a short period does not guarantee the reliability of such a system.

Moreover, the service would rely heavily on teleoperation, without specifying the exact level of this assistance. Some observers fear that each vehicle may be supervised by a teleoperator, which would limit the true extent of the promised autonomy.

Finally, several sources report that Tesla may not have properly informed local authorities about the details of the deployment. Between bold innovation and risky endeavor, Elon Musk’s project fascinates as much as it raises concerns. One thing is certain: the magnate does not seem ready to step out of the limelight.
