Will X be coming to your Tesla soon?

Elon Musk, owner of the social media platform X – formerly Twitter – and CEO of Tesla, announced his intention to create an official X app for Tesla.

If you’ve been living off the grid in recent months, you might not know that Elon Musk bought Twitter, rebranding it as X. And yes, the visionary American entrepreneur has owned the URL www.x.com for many years! However, we may forgive you more easily if you’re not aware that a Tesla is now a true multimedia lounge. Through the “Theater” app in good French, the latest vehicles offer various video streaming services (such as Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Disney+, etc.). These services are accessible on the large digital screen installed in the cars, and of course, they are only available while the vehicle is parked.

Mobile messages, in-car videos

X has come a long way since Musk bought it at the end of last year. Besides the highly criticized removal of censorship, the most significant change concerns video services. Premium subscribers can now upload longer videos, up to two hours. An ideal format for watching a series or even a movie, since lowering the resolution from 1080p to 720p can extend the video duration to three hours.

So why offer content that competitors already have when you are capable of providing it directly? Musk has never hidden that X is intended to become a full-service platform, far from its early days of limited 140-character tweets, and he confirmed this direction: “We will create an app that allows you to see the latest updates from X on your car’s screen.” Elon Musk has set a 3-year development plan for X, but it wouldn’t be surprising if a merger between his brands Tesla and X happens well before that deadline.
