ZFE Green: A Website to Clarify the ZFE-M Jungle

No more getting lost on the metropolis website, this new portal provides all the information about the ZFE-M you’re interested in within seconds.

Regarding ZFE-m, each metropolis is free to set its own rules. For example, Crit’Air 4 vehicles are prohibited in Paris but still allowed in Strasbourg or Marseille. Moreover, the boundaries of a ZFE-m never exactly match city limits, and the activation period varies from one urban area to another. In short, even with the best intentions, it’s easy to accidentally break the rules. The situation is particularly complex for professionals who frequently travel for their work. It is precisely for these profiles that the Interlud (Territorial Innovations and Sustainable Urban Logistics) program developed the ZFE Green website.

Built from the Ministry of Transport’s database, this interactive map-style portal quickly provides the current regulations in specific zones. Accessible to everyone, ZFE Green is primarily designed for professionals, who can use it to determine whether they are eligible for a derogation. They will need to enter certain information (type of vehicle, profession, presence of a special mention on the registration document, etc.).

More than 40 ZFE-m in France by 2025

The portal will be regularly updated to follow the evolution of rules in ZFE-m zones. Soon, it may be capable of calculating routes and, if necessary, suggesting alternative trips to avoid ZFE-m zones.

While ZFE-m zones are currently limited to a few metropolitan areas, their development is expected to accelerate rapidly in the coming months. All cities with over 150,000 inhabitants will need to have one before January 1, 2025. Starting from that date, there will be at least 43 urban areas with a ZFE-m in France.
