Marseille Centre ville ZFE

Like other metropolitan areas, Marseille will finally offer assistance to support the implementation of the ZFE-m in the city center.

Marseille just announced the creation of new financial aids to support the shift towards less polluting mobility. This decision follows the establishment of a ZFE-m in the historic city, on January 1, 2023.

In total, four aids were approved by the Metropolitan Council on January 19, 2023. They are granted without income conditions but cannot be combined. This new scheme concerns only residents of the metropolis who work, live, or study within the ZFE-m perimeter. There can be no more than two beneficiaries within the same household.

€400 aid for purchasing an electric-assist bicycle

To qualify, eligible Marseillais must have sold or scrapped a Crit’Air 5 vehicle or an unclassified vehicle (private car, utility vehicle, two-wheeler) after September 1, 2022. They then have the choice between:

◉ 6 months free on public transport subscriptions in Marseille (Pass Intégral, Métropole, or XL)
◉ 6 months free on the Vélo’v subscription
◉ 6 months free on the 12-month monthly Vélo’v+ subscription
◉ a €400 subsidy for purchasing an electric-assist bicycle. The aid is capped at 50% of the gross cost and can be combined with the state aid

The criteria for granting these aids are of course adaptable. As ZFE-m rules tighten in Marseille, the scheme will be extended to other Crit’Air levels.

For comparison, a city like Strasbourg has implemented more generous aids (up to €4,000 for purchasing a less polluting vehicle), but these are subject to income requirements.
