Who is the new style master at Renault?

Comment
Alexandre Malval Renault

French designer Alexandre Malval joins Renault with the mission of redefining its stylistic language in the era of electric mobility.

Renault welcomes a top-notch recruit. Starting January 2, 2026, Alexandre Malval will become the Design Director of the Renault brand, reporting to Laurens van den Acker, Chief Design Officer of the group. At 55 years old, this style-conscious man with an international background is expected to give a new boost to the diamond-shaped brand, in a context where design more than ever embodies identity and differentiation.

Graduate of the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, Malval is well-acquainted with Renault: he began his career there in 1994 within advanced design. After a notable stint at Volkswagen in Barcelona, where he collaborated on several Audi and VW projects, he spent over fifteen years with the PSA group. Becoming Citroën’s design director in 2012, he significantly influenced the brand with a fluid and emotional style, often praised for its uniqueness and boldness.

Since 2018, he has been leading the Mercedes-Benz International Design Center Europe in Sophia Antipolis, where he oversaw both prospective research and production models for Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart, and AMG.

For Laurens van den Acker, his arrival is “an essential asset to propel Renault to the next level.” On his side, Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive sees it as a strong signal: “We want cars to be alive, expressing emotion, innovation, and an unprecedented customer experience.”
