What is this road hypercar sold for 3.25 million euros?

A small Italian builder committed in 2024 to the 24 Hours of Le Mans will market twelve units of its Endurance Hypercar.

Isotta Fraschini, a historic brand in the automotive world, has a fascinating and rich history. Founded in 1900 in Milan, Italy, by Cesare Isotta and the brothers Vincenzo, Antonio, and Oreste Fraschini, the company initially imported French cars before venturing into manufacturing.

Their first car, the Tipo 1, was introduced in 1901. Isotta Fraschini quickly built a reputation for its high-quality cars and powerful engines. By 1905, they began focusing on producing their own vehicles, distinguished by their technical innovations.

In the 1920s, Isotta Fraschini shifted towards the luxury car segment, becoming a symbol of status and prestige. Their most famous model, the Tipo 8, launched in 1919, was considered the world’s first production car with an eight-cylinder engine. These cars were extremely popular among elites and celebrities, including Hollywood stars.

However, the Great Depression hit Isotta Fraschini hard. Demand for luxury cars dropped, and the company began diversifying into other fields, such as engine production for boats and military equipment.

After World War II, Isotta Fraschini attempted a comeback in the automotive market, without much success. The last attempt by the company to build cars was the Tipo 8C Monterosa in the late 1940s, but only a few prototypes were built.

Over the years, Isotta Fraschini slowly faded as a car manufacturer but continued in other industrial sectors. Today, the brand is primarily known for its heritage in producing luxury cars in the early 20th century… but now it’s making a comeback. And directly into competition.

However, to be accepted into the World Endurance Championship, especially in the prestigious Hypercar category, a brand must produce road-legal vehicles. To achieve this, Isotta Fraschini had an idea: to market 12 units of its Tipo 6 LMH in Strada (road) version.

This is the vehicle shown here, a pure single-seater — no romantic weekend, unless the second person is in another vehicle… — sold for €3.25 million each. A price in line with the production cost of a competition Hypercar, without its large rear wing and featuring a leather seat aboard. Comfort is important!
