Volvo XC40, EX40, and EC40: An Update That Goes Beyond Simple Facelifts
Volvo modernizes its three compact SUVs with new sensors, a Google Gemini assistant, and a redesigned interior, while orders open in France on September 10.
A new look, but above all new eyes to monitor the road. With the announced upgrades to the XC40, EX40, and EC40, Volvo is not just refining its bodies. The brand is renewing part of the equipment responsible for detecting dangers around the vehicle.
Front and side radars, a front camera, rear radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and parking cameras accompany a new software platform. This setup is intended to improve environmental perception and support collision prevention functions.
Among the most concrete new features, an alert warns occupants when a door opening could obstruct a cyclist or another road user. Optionally, the Pilot Assist adds lane change assistance, while the 360-degree camera now offers a 3D representation.
Google Gemini onboard
The interior features an 11.2-inch central display. Volvo announces a smoother interface and fewer manipulations needed to access essential functions. The Google Gemini assistant should allow users to plan a trip or manage messages using natural language. A new wireless charger complements these upgrades.
Outside, the Matrix LED lights reinterpret the “Thor’s hammer.” The grille, hood, fenders, and front bumper also evolve. The XC40 and EX40 receive a revised rear, unlike the EC40 which retains its distinctive design.
The electric EX40 and EC40 each promise up to 575 and 584 kilometers of range, respectively. Orders, including the Black Edition, are open in France; production will begin this autumn. Remote updates will then accompany their lifecycle.
