Vanderer Converts the Peugeot Rifter Electric into a Camper Van

Does a camper van have to run on diesel? For Peugeot and the German company Vanderer, the answer is no, and this Urban Camper is here to prove it.

Vanderer chose to work on the L2 version of the e-Rifter, which measures 4.75 meters long and has 5 seats. The German leisure vehicle specialist completely redesigned the rear layout to transform the electric minivan into a small mobile home. The vehicle now features a kitchenette, a sink, a table, and a small bed. Naturally, all these elements cannot be deployed at the same time due to space constraints. A foldable roof frees up space and allows for two additional sleeping areas.

The issue of range may be more important for a camper van than for a regular car. And unfortunately, the Urban Camper doesn’t work miracles in this regard. According to the WLTP mixed cycle, it can travel up to 274 km between charges at best. So, it’s a bit modest, but it could hardly be different with the 50 kWh battery, which is also found in small city cars from the Stellantis group (Peugeot e-208 and Opel Corsa-e).

Fortunately, fast charging (100 kW) allows about 80% of the battery to be recharged in around 30 minutes. Charging on an 11 kW Wallbox takes about 5.5 hours for a full recharge. However, it’s better to avoid using a standard household socket, as the charging time then increases to over 31 hours.

A Peugeot e-Rifter costing over €60,000

The Urban Camper is sold in Germany for €65,480. Although the German company does not discuss this topic, there is no doubt that a similar transformation could be offered on the counterparts of the electric Rifter. Between the Citroën ë-Berlingo, Opel Combo-e, the new Fiat e-Doblo, and Toyota Pro Ace City Verso Electric, Vanderer has plenty of options!
