The New Alfa Romeo SUV Is Approaching

It all begins with a GPS puzzle on social media as Alfa Romeo teases the identity of the compact SUV derived from the Jeep Avenger.

And if it’s the Brenner Pass? That’s what we can deduce from a message from the automaker on X featuring the caption: “Perhaps we’ve known it all along” followed by a 15-second animation where four GPS coordinates light up successively. One of the coordinates points to the Alfa Romeo history museum, the Museo Storico, another to the Balocco Proving Grounds, another to the Stelvio Pass, and finally to the Brenner Pass.

The technical specifications of the small high-riding Italian, expected in mid-2024, have been known for a long time. It will be built on the CMP/e-CMP platform used by the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600, Peugeot 2008, and DS 3 Crossback. In its 100% electric form, it features a 54 kWh battery and an electric motor powered by the front axle. While the technical setup remains the same as the Avenger, it will have 115 kW (156 hp) and 260 Nm of torque. It can cover 400 kilometers on a single charge according to the WLTP cycle. In terms of dimensions, there are no surprises as it adopts the same measurements as the Avenger, at 4.08 meters long, about 40 cm shorter than the Tonale.

A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version will be based on the Avenger 4×4 Concept. Regarding assumptions, this Alfa could also be equipped with the mild hybrid powertrain from the Avenger, featuring a 1.2-liter internal combustion engine with a combined power of 154 hp, and possibly a more powerful configuration borrowed from its Peugeot cousin.
