Fiat 500 Jolly Lando Norris

British F1 driver Lando Norris was not hesitant to leave the cockpit of his McLaren MCL60 for the wicker seats of this little jewel.

This charming little Fiat 500 Jolly will be auctioned by Car & Classic over 5 days starting October 26. Far from the millions of a Formula 1, it is estimated around 30,000 euros, but the notoriety of its prestigious owner could well drive up the bids. A small clarification, however: it is not an original Jolly, but a tribute model inspired by the approximately 650 cars built by Italian designer Ghia.

The rarity and popularity of Ghia’s creation were such that many Fiat 500 owners decided to undertake the conversion which involved mainly removing the roof and doors.

This 1972 model is powered by a 499 cc air-cooled Fiat engine linked to a four-speed manual transmission. “It barely produces 15 horsepower,” admits Lando Norris. “On the Monaco F1 circuit, it’s really tough to tackle the ascent of Saint Dévote. You can’t even shift to third gear without stalling before reaching the top at Beau Rivage!” And if Lando Norris was truly the coolest driver of the moment?

This Jolly is painted in a light blue gelato, complemented by whitewall tires and finished with caramel carpeting. The wicker seats are guaranteed resistant to sand and salt for spontaneous trips to the beach. A rear trunk basket, also wicker, completes the rich equipment of this model. The purchase invoice signed by Lando Norris is of course included in the sales folder.
